Site Speed & Its Effects on SEO

 

The speed which a web page takes to load on your website is the PAGE SPEED. Depending on the content used on the individual pages – the speed of the page may defer. It is a webpage loading time measured in seconds.

Does the website speed affect SEO ranking? The answer is ‘YES’, as per Google’s Speed Update Algorithm, the ranking of your website SEO is affected depending on how fast your website loads.

Websites which loads fast are given higher preference than the slower ones. You heard that correct but this doesn’t mean that if your website’s SEO is weak but it loads faster – it will show up on search results at the top – NOPE – both has its own importance.

Not to forget – Mobile speed is also considered important in SEO so do not forget to optimize your website for mobile.

A good speed for SEO is 3 – 6 seconds or less. If your website is slow, visitors tend to leave your website which ultimately increases the bounce rate of your website. The higher the bounce rate – it indirectly affects your SEO ranking.

Website loading time depends on many factors like – content / scripts used, internet speed, server speed where the website is hosted etc. We can take care of the page speed by some of the below tips:

  • Minimize the use of scripts – or use appropriate scripts on specific page and not overload by using all the scripts on all the pages as you might end up using unwanted scripts on pages.  
  • Minimize the use of CSS files – or use the appropriate CSS on respective pages and not overload the page with unwanted css files.  
  • Optimize the images used on pages – by optimizing we mean check the resolution / size of the images and do not use heavy images on pages.
